R&R Lounge
4958 East Colfax Ave. | Colfax Avenue & Elm Street | Mayfair Neighborhood
This location has been a bar since the 1950s, when it was known as the Coral Lounge and was considered a "mixed" bar – a historical term for an incognito gay bar. In the 1970s, the bar was renamed the R&R Lounge, which stood for Rick and Roger, the owners at the time. It was at this point that the bar also became out and proud. R&R has been honored in the book Denver's Best Dive Bars: Drinking and Diving in the Mile-High City by Drew Bixby, with a Westword award for Best Gay Bar of 2016, and with an Out Front award for "Best Place to Sit in Part of Denver's Queer History" in 2017.
