Description
Phil Wade reflects on Catholic childhood, shame, survival, teaching, and Denver LGBTQ community. Born in Manhattan and raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, he describes feeling different early, struggling with masculinity, Catholic guilt, school bullying, sports, and the death of his father. His story follows high school, college, early sexual experiences, poetry, hippie culture, moving to Colorado, Denver’s gay bars, the Gay Coalition of Denver, the Denver Gay Revolt, MCC, Brothers Forever, yoga and HIV community work, teaching, grief, aging, and the long process of turning shame into voice, memory, and community witness.
