<dcterms:subject><![CDATA[HIV/AIDS Support]]></dcterms:subject>
<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Dr. Sara Winter reflects on her life, medical career, and role as a founding member of Denver’s AIDS Family Support Group, formed in 1985 through PFLAG. She describes how the group supported families confronting AIDS, grief, stigma, and the revelation that a loved one was gay, often all at once. Winter discusses monthly meetings, telephone support, medical information, financial assistance, and the deep isolation many families experienced during the epidemic. She also reflects on homophobia in medicine, the courage of gay men and their families, and the group’s legacy: offering care, affirmation, and community when people most needed it. Note: Sara donated the papers for the AIDS Family Support Group to Denver Public Library which include correspondence and thank you cards for parents of people with HIV. The remarkable story of the AFSG includes stories of people from every walk of life who live with HIV. ----> https://catalog.denverlibrary.org/search/title.aspx?ctx=1.1033.0.0.6&pos=1&cn=2602983]]></dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Scott Perrin’s oral history explores growing up gay in a restrictive Church of Christ family in suburban Denver, surviving childhood trauma, and finding escape through school, work, and Denver’s gay bars. He describes living a double life, coming out, family rejection framed as “I love you, but,” and the impact of religion on LGBTQ identity. Perrin also reflects on Denver’s LGBTQ nightlife, the AIDS crisis, marriage equality, chosen community, and the importance of self-acceptance. His story centers survival, justice, religious trauma, and the long process of claiming one’s own voice.]]></dcterms:description>
