<text>Phoebe Butsch’s oral history traces her life from Rochester, Minnesota, to Europe, Africa, graduate school, teaching, and Colorado, centered on education, travel, history, feminism, and later lesbian self-understanding. She discusses her Mayo Clinic family background, privileged but gendered 1950s upbringing, Macalester College, teaching in Minnesota, studying in Germany, travel through Europe, South Africa, and Ghana, and the expectations placed on educated women of her generation. Butsch reflects on independence, language, teaching, intellectual life, women’s roles, and the delayed recognition of sexuality. Her story highlights education, privilege, gender expectations, travel, historical consciousness, and lesbian identity.</text>

<text>Orie Thompson talks about growing up in Colorado Springs, what life was like there from 1955 - 1975, as well as the Ball Park Bath House, working at the Center, as well as living through the HIV/AIDS crisis. Orie Thompson’s oral history traces his life from 1950s Colorado Springs to Denver, centered on family, sexuality, bars, friendship, work, and community. He discusses his mother’s World War II stories, early lessons about difference, Palmer High School, racial diversity, his brother coming out, and finding gay newspapers, bookstores, and bars in Colorado Springs. Thompson recalls The Exit, The Boxcar, Hide and Seek, Fashion Bar, Denver’s Gay Coalition, the Ballpark bathhouse, mentorship, and queer life before AIDS. His story highlights gay self-discovery, chosen family, nightlife, activism, memory, and the excitement and risk of living “on the fringe.” ---> Orie Donated many objects to History Colorado's Rainbows and Revolutions Exhibit with work by Aaron Marcus --> See the collection here --> https://5008.sydneyplus.com/HistoryColorado_ArgusNet_Final/Portal.aspx?lang=en-US</text>

<text>Lonnie Hanzon’s three-part oral history traces his life from childhood in Jefferson County through theater, public art, design, queer identity, grief, illness, and large-scale creative work. He discusses family complexity, early bullying, performance, Christmas aesthetics, coming out, survival, and the role of art as transformation. Hanzon reflects on major projects including Evolution of the Ball, work with LucasArts, Neiman Marcus installations, the Clocktower Cabaret, Museum of Outdoor Arts projects, and television design. His story highlights queer creativity, chosen family, public art, theatrical imagination, resilience, AIDS-era loss, and the making of wonder as both vocation and survival.
